The Benue State Ministry of Health and Human Services (SMoH) in collaboration with APHPN Benue state branch and Advocacy for the Prevention of Hepatitis in Nigeria (APHIN) on the 28th of July 2021 marked the World Hepatitis Day 2021 with a free screening for Hepatitis B and C at the Benue State Secretariat, Makurdi. The theme was; “Hepatitis can’t wait”. Two hundred and thirty five people were screened; 54.5% male and 45.5% female. The yield of the screening exercise was 7.7%.
APHPN Benue State Branch marked the World Breastfeeding Week 2021 at Makurdi
APHPN Benue State Branch on the 12th of August 2021 marked the World Breastfeeding Week 2021 with a theme; “Protect breastfeeding: A shared responsibility”. A health talk on the evidence based benefits, importance and the responsibility we all share to protect breastfeeding was delivered to over eighty mothers who attended the immunization clinic at Benue state epidemiological unit, Makurdi. Misconceptions about breastfeeding were properly addressed. Similarly on the same day, the myths, misconceptions, benefits and importance of breastfeeding were discussed during a live radio phone in programme, “Health care” on Radio Benue, which was participatory.
APHPN Benue State Branch visit to the Honorable Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Benue State, Dr. Joseph Ngbea
On the 17th of August 2021, the executives of APHPN Benue State Branch paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Benue State, Dr. Joseph Ngbea at the State Ministry of Health (SMoH), Makurdi, Benue State. The visit was to appreciate the health preventive, promotive and curative services provided by the SMoH, solicit his support for the APHPN branch activities and identify opportunities for collaboration.
General Meeting of APHPN Benue State Branch
On the 19th of August 2021, APHPN Benue State Branch held her General meeting. Presentations on Infection Prevention and Control and Mentorship in Public Health were made by Dr. Godian Ezema and Dr. Onyemocho Audu respectively. The meeting was well attended by members.
NMA Benue September 2021 CPD on Research Methodology anchored by members of APHPN Benue State branch
On the 9th to 10th of October 2021, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Benue State Branch, conducted her September 2021 Continuous Professional Development (CPD) on Research Methodology. It was fully anchored by members of APHPN Benue State Branch. Topics covered included; research design, introduction and literature review in research, sample size determination, data collection tools design, data management, abstracts for conferences, proposal/grants writing and ethical issues in research and practice. The keynote lecture “COVID-19 Delta Strain: Opportunities and challenges to the health workforce” was delivered by Prof. Steve Abah; DVC Academics, Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO). The event was well attended.
